Trades Academy

Taranaki Trades Academy is the exclusive vehicle that will take Year 11 to 13 students towards a vocational qualification while still at school. Students can remain engaged in education, be assisted in transition from a secondary to tertiary learning environment, and gain credits towards NCEA Level 2 and a tertiary qualification.

Trades Academy is a partnership between Taranaki secondary schools, WITT and Industry. This is not just a training programme but also a relevant and exciting journey that gives every young person the opportunity to start their chosen career path while still at school.

As a student, you are able to remain enrolled with your school, and also study one day per week at WITT. This page shows the courses you can study through the Art department.

Entry criteria for these courses are:

  • Be enrolled in a Taranaki secondary school and be in Year 11, 12 or 13
  • Have achieved at least 60 credits at NCEA Level 1
  • Have a genuine interest in an art career
  • Gain approval from school and parents/guardians
  • Be motivated to success

L2 Trades Academy – Digital Story Making

This course takes you on a journey of storytelling and digital media! You get to imagine an exciting tale then produce it using a variety of different media and tools, such as: digital photography, Photoshop, graphic design, digital painting, printing, web design, and presentations. This course is suitable for Taranaki high school students who will be in Yr 11, 12 or 13 in 2017. Get the credits you need to pathway into study in the creative sector, while learning loads of interesting skills about design. You can pathway into our Level 3 NZ Certificate in Digital Media and Design.

 

L2 Trades Academy – Art and Design

If your focus is on drawing and painting, and you want to get a head-start on your creative career, then this course could be for you. Learn new skills in art and design media, then put them into practice with some project work. The addition of some digital photography and documentation allows you to create a portfolio of your work. Suitable for students who wish to launch their study in the creative industries. You can pathway into our Level 3 NZ Certificate in Digital Media and Design.
